"Molecule 05, cashmeran, is dry, radiant, warm and woody with an unexpected touch of pine resin”, says Geza Schoen. “That gave me the idea of creating a different kind of summer fragrance for Escentric 05. I wanted to evoke what it was like to be by the sea, but not by using the usual marine notes, which I find too artificial. ??Instead, I wanted to recreate the experience of being on an island in the Mediterranean, like the one where I have spent so many summers. What you notice as you walk up the path from the sea is how the heat changes plants and trees, they turn dry, resinous and aromatic.

The aroma-molecule this time is natural – vertiveryle acetate, a refined vetiver note which is celebrated at its purest in Molecule 03. Through a complicated chemical process the darker and smokier shades of vetiver oil are removed, leaving a smooth, woody and slightly grassy smell.

Escentric 03 is a tribute to the more familiar side of vetiver: its darker, slightly exotic woodiness. It opens with a burst of freshness – top notes of ginger root, green peppercorn, Mexican lime. The heart of the fragrance is orris surrounded by Egyptian jasmine and soft tea notes. The slightly bitter notes of vetiver at the base are smoothed by rich amber shades of sandalwood, cedar, leather and musk. The overall impression is spicy but fresh with warm balsamic undertones, like a traditional chypre. It’s sensuous without sweetness, which is something of a Schoen signature.

Escentric 02 uses an unparalleled concentration of ambroxan, in combination with vetiver and muscone, a particularly gorgeous nature-identical musk. Orris, elderflower extract and hedione add to the instant effervescence of the topnote. Schoen free-associates: “Gin and tonic, a hint of the Austrian lemonade called Almdudler, the whiff that you get when you first open a brand-new Apple laptop…” It’s a clear, clean scent, but it dries down to something warm, sexy and elusive.

Escentric 01 consists of ‘Iso E Super’ in an unprecedented concentration (65%), together with other ingredients (including pink pepper, green lime and balsamic notes like benzoin, mastic and incense) in a new balance. Rather than the traditional top-to-bottom fragrance pyramid, Escentric 01 focuses on a long, lingering base note composed of warm musk and woody tones.
